Oriental Rose (pt.1): Toba Dealer

I stumbled across Ningyo Namazu some time ago and was determined to take some pics at this most peaceful location, a little oasis in the midst of the rather eccentric Picklefish Island sim. The builder describes it thus: “My idea of a Japanese peasant house. With a hand loom I found in a Swedish sim. Taiko drums. Tai chi. 2 fan dances: Ether & Butterfly Blade. (Wear fans.) A cruddy sampan. Japanese court music. A peaceful glade of dried fish & contemplat[ion.]“ Having no idea what may be suitable Japanese peasant garb, and judging that it may not necessarily make the most fashionable of posts even if I could track some down, I took the easy option, and IM’d Japan-ophile Beanie Canning, but she wasn’t online, so I went to Bare Rose instead!
My first selection, the Toba Dealer, shown in purple, red and black versions also included, is most striking, flowing folds of fabric from copious sleeves at one side, contrasting sharply with the exposed shoulder of the other, revealing a bandaged bosom above the obi style belt. The outfit also includes a decorative dosu knife but as this attaches to the spine, and the shoulder piece attaches to the chest, the only way I could wear this simple little necklace I’ve had for what seems like forever, was to reattach it to the spine. I do make it a point to adjust the prims of a Bare Rose outfit as little as possible as they’re non-copy, a very good reason to always try the demo’s June Dion provides for prim-dependent pieces.

The real challenge of the day was footwear. It’s so hard to make avatar feet look pretty when in flat, open shoes, so the shoe itself must do the lion’s share. I searched high and low for geta sandals, finding some very cheap and very ugly, some quite nice but prohibitively expensive for an item I won’t be wearing on a day-to-day basis, and then Dark Eden came up in search. I love Dark Eden boots, and Etain Peregrine’s prim work in general, so of course I had to tp over to check it out. I was absolutely thrilled to find a wonderful pack of sixteen geta sandals, with adorable little bell-anklets for just L$100! That’s two styles of sandal in each of eight shades, including a tintable white version.
